Auto Accident

  1. Stop at once.
  2. Seek Medical Attention for anyone who is hurt.
  3. Call the police.
  4. DO NOT ADMIT FAULT.
  5. Discuss the specifics of the accident only with the police and your insurance agency.
  6. Exchange information with the other people in the accident; obtain names, addresses, insurance policy number, insurance company and PHONE NUMBERS.
  7. If witnesses stop, obtain their names and phone numbers.

Employee Injury

  1. Require the employee to complete an employee injury report describing the date of the injury, the accident, the body parts injured, and the location of the accident.
  2. Complete a first report of injury form. Send it promptly to the workers compensation insurance claim office identified in your Capitol Insurance claims kit (sent to your business following your last renewal). Provide a copy to our office; or
  3. Phone your claim in to the 800 reporting claim center offered as an option by some of the insurance companies. (This number will vary depending on your assigned insurance company.)
  4. Forward all medical bills to the insurance company’s adjuster once assigned. If you wish, you may turn in any initial bills with the first report of injury.
  5. Investigate the accident to identify and implement corrective action strategies to prevent a similar type of accident in the future.

Liability Claims and Lawsuits

  1. If you receive a letter, summons or claim notice from a third party alleging that you damaged or harmed them in any way, send the document(s) to Capitol Insurance immediately.
  2. If the document is a summons from the court, you have a limited number of days to make a court appearance. If we receive the documents in a timely fashion, the insurance company will appear in court on your behalf for covered loss.
  3. If a visitor is injured at your property, note the time of the event, date, visitor name, and description of the accident and injuries. Take photos of the accident scene, if possible, and contact Capitol Insurance to report the potential claim.

Property Damage

  1. Secure the premises to prevent further damage. You may need to call a general contractor to assist you.
  2. Call Capitol Insurance at 317-253-1155 or 800-305-9856. Be ready to describe the cause of the property damage, the address of the damaged property, and the date the claim occurred.
  3. If the damage is significant enough to keep your business from operating, or if it occurs outside of normal business hours and you need immediate help, please call our “after hours claims phone” (317-439-9377). This claims phone is rotated each weekend among our agents to help with emergencies.
